EP delegation to discuss JCPOA, HR

TEHRAN, Nov. 25 (MNA) – Headed by Janusz Lewandowski, the European Parliament’s 10 strong delegation arrived early on Saturday in Tehran to discuss bilateral relations with Iran.

Janusz Lewandowski, the Chairman of the European Parliament’s (EP) Group for Relations with Iran, at the head of a 10-manned entourage, arrived in Iranian capital city of Tehran early on Saturday at the invitation of the Iranian Chairman of Iran-EP Parliamentary Relations Group Kezam Jalali.

The delegation in his company is made up of a host of European veteran politicians including German politician Cornelia Ernst, from Confederal Group of the European United Left - Nordic Green Left who also serves as the Vice-Chair of the EP Group for Relations with Iran,German politician Klaus Buchner from Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance, Austrian politician Josef Weidenholzer, from Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, Italian politician Flavio Zanonato, from Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, and Italian politician Niccolò Rinaldi.

The two sides are determined to discuss avenues opened by the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the nuclear agreement between Iran and 5+1 group of countries signed in July 14, 2015. The nuclear deal was put into effect in early 2016. Also human rights issues are to be brought up in the bilateral talks.

During the three-day stay of the EP delegation, Lewandowski and his companions, are scheduled to hold meetings with Speaker of Iranian Parliament Ali Larijani, Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif, and the Head of Iran-EP Parliamentary Relations Group Kazem Jalali. The EP delegation is also slated to visit Iranian historic city of Isfahan where many monuments of Safavid era are open to tourists.
